A Very Serious Person 12:30pm • sept 30 • Film center

In this emotionally touching film from director, writer and actor, Charles Busch, we see the story of two solitary people, who, even in the midst of sorrow, manage to create a lasting friendship. Gil, an orphaned thirteen-year-old boy, is being raised by his terminally ill grandmother, Mrs. A, in Manhattan. When the two head down to the shore for the summer, Mrs. A hires Jan, an emotionally reserved and fussy Dane, to be her new nurse. As the summer progresses, Jan finds himself in the odd role of mentor and friend to this sensitive boy who will soon be faced with the unwelcome death of his grandmother. Through this difficult time, Gil and Jan become increasingly close, and as one develops a newfound maturity, the other realizes his own inherent vulnerability. – Rachel Popowcer (USA, 2006, 92 min, dir: Charles Busch)
