Meth 2:30pm • sept 30 • sWFc

Director Todd Ahlberg’s film Meth, takes a hard look at the scourge and addiction of crystal methamphetamine, an epidemic that is silently devouring the gay community. Smartly edited, this film takes its audience as close as possible to experience of being addicted to the drug. Ahlberg interviews ten methamphetamine users, both former and current, and parlays their stories into a visual roller coaster ride that both appeals to and repels viewers. From the former corporate executive who lost it all to the current methamphetamine user who finds he feels more sexy, sophisticated and alive (even as he loses everything and everyone around him), no one is safe from the pull of the drug. Ahlberg’s subjects paint a hopeful picture for the future of the gay community even as they address the oftenignored link between meth use and HIV infection. This film is as powerful as they come and should be required viewing for anyone who has ever felt the temptation to try, or watched someone crash and burn because of, crystal methamphetamine. –Jeremy Olsen (USA, 2005, 79 min, dir: Todd Ahlberg )
