This dramatic film follows the developing relationship of Alexandra and Kiki. Alexandra, who doesn’t want to live on campus, moves in with Kiki’s overbearing aunt and becomes embroiled in the turbulent dynamic between Kiki and her brother Sandu. The sibling’s relationship has a definite erotic undertone and Alexandra begins to suspect that something more is going on between the two. Some frank discussions on the topic of incest do nothing to waylay her fears, and the film comes to a climax as the couple decide to get away from the escalating tension between Kiki and her family. They end up visiting Alexandra’s family in the country, but the inevitable conflict that arises there, and Kiki’s unapologetic response to questioning from Alexandra, move the film along at a pace that gives you just enough time to wonder about your own feelings towards the whole situation. –Rachel Popowcer (Romania, 2005, 85 min, dir: Tudor Giurgiu.
