And you thought your high school days were rough. Meet Rodney Miller, an endearing high school senior with more problems than his small Texas hometown can handle. There’s his religious-fundamentalist mother, whose years of serving him Holythemed food has left him overweight; his mean father, who dies under the most curious of circumstances; his prom date, hot british Joey, who isn’t really into bigger guys; and his desire to be a Broadway actor some day, fueled by a growing attraction to his drag queen drama teacher, Seymour Cox (Jonathon Cauoette from Tarnation). Writer/director/star Ash Christian wrote and filmed this entire movie before he was legally able to drink and the result is a biting, refreshing satire that has been described as ‘John Waters meets John Hughes.’ Anyone who has ever felt like an outsider should do themselves a favor and not miss Fat Girls.
